We played this course shortly after it opened in Boston and only
had a chance to play one of the two courses there as the second didn’t open
until later in the evening. It has a great location right on Bolyston St.
across from an entrance to the Prudential building so we expect it to get
crowed during peak times but we snuck in right as the doors opened early
afternoon. While the Swingers courses we
have been to have always brought a more “midway” type feel to minigolf, this
one explicitly leans into the Carnival atmosphere with the extras that you get
when buying a round of golf.
The course we played felt like it heavily leaned into the concept
of trying to hit a specific color target to get a better placement (or a
hole-in-one) versus just some more conventional putting like we have seen on
other Swingers courses. The color scheme
remained consistent throughout the course with the gold option always being the
best but even over nine holes it felt a little exhausting that almost every tee
shot was a little bit of a gimmick. However, while it was a similar gameplay
for each lane, the designs themselves were creative and different enough from
each other that it didn’t feel repetitive.
It also felt like the gold shots would be very difficult for kids to get
with any regularity, understanding that while families can play at this course
earlier in the day that the focus is on adult play. The slightly frustrating
part was that there was an occasion where we got the hard gold shot and it
didn’t give us the ace. With the ability
to take some high scores on other lanes, especially when you get into the
“worst” color, it is a letdown when you don’t get an ace for the right shot.
Overall, the golf would be good for a larger group or for those
with a little less competitive bent in their normal game. Like a lot of the other Swingers courses
there isn’t a lot of space on the course between lanes so we can see it being a
bit crazy when it is crowded but the bar service directly to the course is
always a plus. They have a good
selection of fun cocktails to indulge in if that is your thing.
The big bonus to this course was that, along with the golf, you
got a card worth 30 minutes of game-play in their Dave & Busters style
gaming area. Think skeeball, basketball, horse racing, etc. You played unlimited games for 30 minutes
getting tokens which you could then use in the claw machine to try to get some
Swingers merch. We weren’t able to grab
anything but it was a nice additional for the cost of the round, though again
feel like that area would become a bit cramped when the crowds are high. They
also have merch for sale up there which we thought was reasonably priced given
the establishment.
It might not have been our favorite Swingers we have played so far
but it is a great addition to Boston, especially the location, and we would
return if we lived in or around the city for a night out.
