This is one of two courses owned by the same
group on the Ocean City boardwalk. We ended up playing it at the tail end of a
hot summer afternoon after practice for a tournament and playing another course
that day. Our expectations going into it
were not that high as from the outside it looked a bit like any other nautical
themed boardwalk course. A lot of the course is hidden from the boardwalk so we
ended up being surprised at how expansive the course actually was in terms of
depth from the frontage.
We knew it was going to be an interesting course
from the jump as the first hole ended up with and easy but creative aces. We then realized this was going to be a theme
for the rest of the course. Nearly every
hole has some sort of path that is close to a guaranteed ace. You’ll get the occasional lip out but for the
most part they will drop right in. The
holes also tend to be forgiving though if you do have an errant tee shot on
some, the scores might add up quickly. For reference we had a range of 32 to 48
on our scorecard. The pathways they created for the ace shots and the holes
themselves were some of the most creative we have seen in over 200 courses, and
could definitely keep you coming back to try to master them all.
The theming of the course is also
excellent. Upon first glance it appears
to just be a seaside/fishing village when you walk in but then brings a
historical bent covering the history of the Sindia shipwreck off the coast, complete with a replica
of the ship. The ship has holes on it but also blocked the back side of the
course, which is where you don’t realize how much there is to the course. Especially coming off of playing Tee Time
down the boardwalk that crams its holes into a much smaller footprint. The
course also has a fun surprise if you sink the ace on the final hole.
There’s a good amount of space on the course,
which we put to use working around some large groups though there is little to
shade you from the summer sun. It was clean and in good condition, and the
price point is excellent for any course let alone one in a tourist area. With
all those factors we’d definitely recommend hitting this one up if you are in
Ocean City!
