Atlanta’s Pirate’s Cove mini golf is very similar to the other Pirate’s Coves we have played in the Northeast. Immediately upon arriving the traditional ship, cannons, and pirates were visible. One interesting difference we have not seen is that the place where you pay and get your ball and putter are in the pirate ship.
There are two courses, Blackbeard’s Adventure (18 holes) and The Original Captain Kidd’s Adventure (9 holes). We only played the 18 hole course. Blackbeard’s Adventure has the usual factoids about Blackbeard’s life. The hole design was pretty average, but it did make for relatively easy play. The atmosphere was great. There were areas on the course where pirates were hiding in trees, and the 17th and 18th holes were on the deck of the pirate ship! Another feature we did like was the water splashes that simulated cannon ball fire.
A couple things we did notice was the water level was a little low. Hole 11 looked like it was missing some kind of prop. We thought the gallows needed a pirate hanging from it. We also thought a more pirate themed soundtrack, like sea-shanties, would have made more sense than the modern music that was played.
Overall the course was in very good shape. The carpets were in excellent condition. The course was clean, well landscaped, and well laid out. There is a lot of space between the holes, and because the course twists, turns, and goes up and down levels, it’s impossible to see what’s coming next. The course is shaded fairly well, which helps a lot in the sun and heat of the South. We would recommend this course, and it’s especially convenient because it’s located right off the highway.
