This is the type of course one expects only 20 minutes outside of Boston.  The entire theme of this course was the Revolutionary War and colonial times.  Obstacles on this course included Paul Revere’s house, the Old North Church, the Massachusetts State House and a handful of other colonial items.  The course also provided signs with little historical facts and had patriotic music playing.  The storage sheds along the back were painted to look like colonial houses and businesses and the fences along the other edges had colonial murals painted on them (although some were fading and one looked like a soldier taking a leak on the wall.)  The course itself was one of those cement courses, where all the holes are below the sidewalk level.  Some of the carpets were in tough condition, but didn’t really get in the way of play.  However, some of the obstacles that were in rough condition did as we managed to get balls stuck in several cracks.  The annoying cracks were the ones right outside of a tube which stole momentum of the ball and several times made the ball get stuck.

That being said, the owner/manager was working on the course while we were there, so there is being an effort put in to maintain it.  Although the creativity of the items used in the obstacles was high, the layout of the actual holes was uncreative as many of them were of the exact same format.  This course did offer some “bonus” holes though.  Holes #8, 12, and 13 are all bonus holes.  On these holes you get to subtract two strokes if you hit a hole-in-one.  On the 18th hole, which is very long and snake-like, you can choose either a free game or a couple tokens at the arcade if you get a hole-in-one.  Also, the cup on the 18th hole is about 1.5 times the size of a normal cup, giving you a little bit better chance at getting the hole-in-one.  This course also has a little sign at the end, which allows you to rate your round depending on your score and age group.  This was the first time we’ve seen anything like this and we rated “very good” and “excellent” when we played.  Overall, the atmosphere of the course and theme does make it worth playing, although it could do with a little more housekeeping and maintenance.
